Idol Surprise?

Ok. The voting public are insane. Sanjaya made the Top 12. That's just crazy.

No surprise on Jared. He had some singing ability but wasn't any 'wow' and while he would perform, it didn't always match the song. His over-used grin was pure lounge performer. Not a loss. Except, well, he should've stayed longer than Sanjaya.

I don't even remember Sabrina. That's a bad sign and why she's gone.

The talentless, bitchy Antonella got cut. I think Simon gave people cover in not voting for her by saying last night that she'd weathered the scandalous photos controversy well. Thank you, Simon.

The big shock, really, is Sundance Head being cut. Wow. Yes, "Jeremy" was butchered, but he was clearly among the more talented guys.

There are pre-Idol performance clips of Blake Lewis ("B-Shorty") on YouTube. He's probably not been "discovered" since some of the stuff is fairly experimental and not even close to what would land a record deal. He's clearly talented and has his own thing going on. I think he should work on his vocals, in particular using his falsetto. He employs vocal effects in his act so he can get away with slips a bit more than in the Idol realm. I think, if he's willing to go mainstream in the way he's melded his style to Idol, he could be very, very successful.
